New Mandatory Training Requirement for All Committee Members
1st September 2026
Dear Committee Members,
Important: New Mandatory Training Requirement for All Committee Members
We are writing to inform you of an important new requirement under NSW legislation that affects all strata committee members. From 1 October 2026, NSW Fair Trading is introducing mandatory training for committee members. This letter explains what you need to know and what action you need to take.

What You Need to Know:
|
Timeline & Your Deadlines
The key dates you need to be aware of:
1 October 2026:
Training launches on Strata Hub. Fair Trading will provide the link, and we will forward it to you with full instructions on how to access it.
Within 2 months of your appointment:
The Committee Secretary plays a vital role in supporting compliance and will provide reminder notices before your training deadline. You must complete the training within 3 months of your appointment. NSW Fair Trading will also provide guidance regarding the training requirements. This is a firm deadline under the legislation.
Why This Matters
This training requirement has been introduced to ensure all committee members understand their legal obligations and responsibilities when governing a strata scheme. The course covers key legislation, governance principles, financial management, dispute resolution, and compliance—all areas that are critical to managing your building effectively and protecting owners’ interests.
Completing the training on time protects you personally and keeps your committee compliant with NSW law.
Practical Information
The training module takes approximately 1 hour of your time. You can complete it at your own pace—log in, work through the content at a time that suits you and log out whenever you need.
Once you have completed the training, NSW Fair Trading will automatically issue you with a Certificate of Completion. You will need to provide a copy of this certificate to your Committee Secretary as proof that you have met your obligations.
|
Important: What Happens If Training Is Not Completed If you do not complete training by your deadline, you will not be able to participate in committee decisions or vote on committee matters. Your Committee Secretary will be required to prevent your participation in governance and may need to appoint a replacement committee member. This is a legal requirement, not a discretionary matter. We encourage you to complete the training well before your deadline to avoid any disruption to the committee or governance of your building. |
